The Orchid Room: Design on a Dime

His passion is macro photography and she loves whimsy, and color….lots of it. It all started with a photograph of one of their orchids. It was  printed on aluminum and it now lives over their sofa. This room was furnished with leftovers from their lifetime. My time was spent in their basement and attic digging out those lost treasures to be repurposed. First, an antique chair and an ottoman were upholstered in a Tommy Bahama fabric. A table topper was made to cover an old iron patio table. Both the topper and a floor lamp were adorned with colorful glass bead trim. Four parsons chairs were outfitted with new slipcovers. A rug was brought up from storage, and a chest of drawers, split from a pair, was given a new whimsical life with colorful knobs. Hung at opposite ends of the room are two mirrors purchased 30 years ago from an artist in Carmel. Also featured are a glass and iron palm leaf end table and a small ceramic elephant table with a marble top. A majolica-like planter that was her mom’s favorite, a new leather loveseat, and a new seeded glass table lamp purchased for one cent at Macy’s, finish this lovely sun room.
